Mall News and Updates

On Monday, March 8, El Fenix CEO and Owner Mike Karns joins Denton Mayor Mark Burroughs for the grand opening of El Fenix’ 17th location. A ribbon cutting celebration with live entertainment begins at 10:30 a.m. with lunch service immediately following. The 91-year-old restaurant legend adds this location at 2229 South I-35E, in front of the Golden Triangle Mall, at the corner of Loop 288 and Interstate 35E.

“We are proud to share the legacy of the Martinez family with Denton area residents.”

The new 6,021 square foot restaurant seats 206 and features the company’s updated design. The décor selected for this location features lighting, furniture, tiles, pottery and other elements handcrafted by artisans throughout the United States and Mexico. Mr. Karns and Mayor Burroughs are also very proud to announce that this store opening has created 65 new jobs!

"El Fenix is honored to serve the residents of Denton. We decided to join the Denton community because of the large number of requests asking El Fenix to come here, especially from our friends at the University of North Texas,” says Karns. “We are proud to share the legacy of the Martinez family with Denton area residents.”

About El Fenix

Miguel “Mike” and Faustina “Mama Cha-Cha” Martinez began the legacy of El Fenix when they opened the first restaurant in 1918 in what was then the “Little Mexico” neighborhood of Dallas. From that beginning, Miguel and Faustina's children and grandchildren grew the business to 15 stores. El Fenix has been a beloved DFW tradition for over 91 years and is best known for their award-winning chips and salsa, as well as their Wednesday Enchilada Special. Since acquiring the restaurants in 2008, Karns has added two new stores and has plans to open four more this year, including a new location scheduled to open May 5 near Cowboys Stadium in Arlington.
