Meet the 2021-2022 Faces of Denton

Golden Triangle Mall is excited to announce the 2021-2022 “Faces of Denton,” where we celebrate these amazing individuals who represent the city of Denton. Denton is full of culture, rich with history and packed with people who make Denton a one-of-a-kind place to live. To help us recognize and capture Denton’s spirit, we selected ten Dentonites this year to be the Faces of Denton. Discover this amazing group in Denton at Golden Triangle Mall:

Maria, 48

Meet one of our beautiful Faces of Denton, Maria Cunningham! She is a hardworking Pre-K teacher that has lived in Denton since ‘93. She has done so much for this community including running with the torch representing Denton and has been Teacher of the Year! Did you know that she formerly worked at two stores in Golden Triangle Mall, Famous Footwear and Express, when they were here? Maria has a lot of history with our mall and even got her beautiful wedding dress right here at JCPenney! 

Megan, 18

Small town girl, Megan David, is a nursing student at North Central Texas College, is a competitive cheerleader for Texas Elite, and loves to shop! She was in Dillard’s ‘Back to School Fashion Show’ and is excited to represent Denton again many years later! “This is a big deal for me because I am basically a leader of Denton now. Representing Denton means a lot to me. Being a leader means a lot to me because I have been a cheerleader since I was 5 years old.” 

Amia, 7

Eight-year-old Amia Black enjoys dancing and shopping in her free time. She also loves to go out to eat with family and friends. Her favorite food at the mall is pizza from Italia Express and loves chocolate chip cookies from Great American Cookies! Catch her shopping at Golden Triangle Mall any day of the week!

Emily, 51

Extroverted Emily White is an educator who loves to be involved in community events. She also has two degrees from Texas Women’s University and produces a radio show every Monday at 9am on 92.9 FM! “Being a face of Denton means that I get to be a part of the community I love and I get to be around other people who are proud to be part of the Denton community,” and that is important to her. 

Michael, 64

Born and raised in Denton, Michael Ebron went to all Denton schools through high school, then North Texas State University. He obtains an Associate of Applied Science Degree at Le Cordon Bleu in Culinary Arts. He’s a small business owner and talented chef who loves to cook gourmet meals for his church, friends and family. Michael was even a tax deputy at the Denton County Tax Office for over 11 years and is excited to take on this role and be involved as a Face of Denton. 

Casey, 52

Meet Casey Newton! Did you know that her grandparents were some of the first settlers of Denton? She was born and raised in Denton and her daughter was the first baby born in Denton in 1995 at Denton Community Hospital. She is passionate about the fair and rodeo and loves to ride horses in her free time. Casey is also very involved in church and the community. She was a teacher in Denton from 1995 to 2016 and has impacted many lives. She’s excited to keep impacting lives as she is a Face of Denton!

Kendal, 27

Kendal Dickson grew up in Denton and watched Golden Triangle Mall go through many changes. She works at Texas Women’s University and is passionate about horses and horseback riding. She even does barrel racing! Kendal is also an amazing author and has a book coming out in February! She’s excited to be a Face of Denton because it’s a great opportunity to add her unique personality to a diverse group of individuals who are representing Denton!

Andrew, 25

Meet Andrew Williams! He’s originally from South Carolina and moved here around seven years ago to get his bachelor’s and master’s degrees at UNT, and is a talented bass player. “My favorite thing about Denton is there are so many opportunities. You can meet almost any type of person and do almost anything.” 

Heydi, 20

Energetic college student, Heydi Vanegas attends the University of North Texas and is majoring in biology so she can become an Orthodontist. She grew up knowing the ins and outs of Denton and her favorite stores at Golden Triangle are American Eagle and Zumiez! She loves Denton because there are many things to do and it’s easy to get to places like Dallas or Southlake! Heydi is excited about this opportunity because it’s unlike anything else she has done and would love to represent Denton.

Sharon, 65

Meet Sharon Barnhill! She is a retired flight attendant, small business owner, community activist, local performer, wife, mom, & grandmother. She’s served on several boards, is active in church, and spent 20 years doing PTA work on several Denton campuses. “I love Denton because it’s my hometown and I can appreciate what Denton has to offer. I love the arts community especially, I love music, I love the fact that there is a downtown area with lots of things to do.”
